Penguin Hunter

A minor figure glimpsed on the fringes of Futurama's universe, the Penguin Hunter is exactly what his name promises: a gruff, single-minded pursuer of penguins, dropped into a gag rather than a plotline. He behaves with the deadpan, oblivious confidence typical of the show's throwaway oddballs, chasing his quarry as if it were the most reasonable job in the universe.

John DiMaggio's gravelly, no-nonsense delivery turns a one-note premise into a small comic jolt — he plays the absurdity completely straight, which is the joke. Futurama thrives on background weirdos treated with total sincerity, and the Penguin Hunter is a tidy example of that trick, memorable precisely because he never explains himself.
