Paul Revere

Paul Revere turns up in Futurama as a stray joke made flesh, a historical name dropped into the show's junk-drawer future and played dead straight by whichever robot or human happens to be wearing it. He appears fast, delivers his bit, and vanishes, treating the whole absurd situation as perfectly ordinary business.

The gag depends entirely on commitment: David Herman, already doing double duty on Futurama's crowded voice roster, gives the character just enough gravel and self-importance to sell the historical-name-in-the-wrong-context bit without winking at the audience. It's a small, disposable joke, but it lands because nobody on screen seems to know it's a joke.
