When we meet him, Pablo Escobar is a Medellín smuggler with bigger ideas than the men around him, moving cocaine north with a mix of patience and menace. He's a family man and a populist at once, doling out charm and cash to the poor while quietly building an operation no one yet understands the scale of.

Wagner Moura plays him soft-spoken and almost shy, which makes the violence land harder when it arrives — there's no snarl, just calm arithmetic. The show lets him be genuinely warm with his family and neighborhood before it lets you see what that warmth costs everyone outside it. That contradiction, never resolved, is the performance's whole engine.
