Otis Milburn

Otis is a socially anxious sixteen-year-old whose mother is a sex therapist, which mortifies him despite having absorbed all her clinical vocabulary. He can't masturbate and freezes around girls he likes, yet somehow becomes the unlikely architect of a black-market sex-advice clinic at school, dispensing calm expertise he can't apply to his own life.

The joke and the tenderness are the same joke: a kid who can talk anyone else through their hang-ups but not his own. Butterfield plays that gap with fidgety, blinking sincerity rather than smugness, so Otis reads as generous and hapless at once — a good listener who is hilariously bad at being listened to.
