Osferth

Osferth arrives as a monk of uncertain birth, awkward and out of place among Uhtred's warriors. Pious, bookish, and squeamish at the sight of blood, he is sent into a soldier's world he seems wholly unsuited for, clinging to prayer and duty while everyone around him waits for him to fail.

The pleasure is watching a man built for the cloister force himself into a warrior's life through sheer stubbornness rather than talent. Ewan Mitchell plays the discomfort completely straight, no wink to the audience, so every small hard-won competence lands as an actual victory instead of a foregone one.
