Orphan Crippler

Orphan Crippler is one of Futurama's many throwaway robots, introduced with a name built for a single shock laugh rather than a storyline. Little is shown of motive or personality beyond the joke of the name itself — the show trusts the absurdity of a bluntly monstrous label on an otherwise ordinary robotic bit player to do the work.

The character works because Futurama's comedy often lives in these glancing, never-explained names, and John DiMaggio's voice — already familiar as Bender's gravelly bark — lends even a one-line robot a lived-in, deadpan menace that makes the joke land harder than the screen time would suggest.
