Opera House Announcer

An unseen voice of officialdom at the opera house, the Announcer exists to deliver formal pronouncements with theatrical gravity — introducing acts, hushing the crowd, treating whatever spectacle Futurama has cooked up with the solemn dignity of a real cultural institution. He is pure function dressed as pomp.

Maurice LaMarche's booming, old-Hollywood baritone is the whole joke: the more self-important the delivery, the funnier the absurdity it's introducing becomes. It's a tiny role, but LaMarche's vocal commitment turns a throwaway announcer into another sly bit of scale in Futurama's oversized universe.
