Character

Olly Stevens

Olly Stevens in Broadchurch (2013), played by Jonathan Bailey.

Olly is a young local reporter at the Broadchurch Echo, eager to break out of small-town journalism with a real story. He's the nephew of DS Ellie Miller, which gives him inside access he's not above using. Scruffy, earnest, and a little too pleased with himself, he's chasing the case as a career break.

Jonathan Bailey plays him with a gawky, puppyish ambition that's easy to underestimate — he's comic relief in the early episodes, the overeager kid with a laptop and a scoop. But the show uses his closeness to the family and his hunger for a byline to needle at the ethics of reporting on grief, and Bailey never lets the charm curdle into something purely opportunistic.

Oliver "Olly" Stevens was a journalist for the Broadchurch Echo, although he was trying to hit it big in the journalism business and applied for jobs at some of the big newspapers such as the Daily Herald.
