Old Woman

She turns up on the margins of New New York, a stock elderly bystander ready with a complaint, a non sequitur, or a blunt bit of futuristic common sense. She is never the point of the scene, but she always has an opinion about it, delivered with the flat certainty of someone who has seen worse.

Tress MacNeille, one of Futurama's great utility voices, gives her a cracked, no-nonsense rasp that turns a single throwaway line into a small comic event. The joke isn't who she is — it's that the show trusts a nameless old woman to land a punchline as sharp as any named cast member's.
