Octopus

Octopus turns up as one of Futurama's stranger background inhabitants, a creature dropped into the show's crowded gallery of aliens and oddities without much fanfare. He exists mostly at the edges of a scene, reacting to the chaos around him rather than driving it, in the deadpan, everything-is-normal way the show treats its weirdest additions.

Maurice LaMarche is one of the great utility voices of animation, and Futurama uses him the way it uses its whole bench of side characters: to fill the world so thickly with personality that even a passing gag lands. Octopus works less as a figure you follow than as proof of how generous the show's background texture is.
