Number Six

A former secret agent resigns his post, is gassed in his own flat, and wakes in a strange coastal Village where everyone has a number instead of a name. He is Number Six now, and he refuses it—refusing to explain his resignation, refusing to cooperate, demanding answers from whoever runs the place.

McGoohan plays defiance as a full-time occupation, clipped and furious, never once softening into charm. The genius is that his resistance is the whole plot: every episode is a new trap built to break him, and his refusal to be "a number" becomes a genuinely thrilling, paranoid argument about identity itself.
