NoHo Hank

Hank runs with the Chechen mob in North Hollywood, but he's the sunniest gangster you'll ever meet — chatty, eager to please, quick to call people his friend. He wants to be liked, to move up, and to make the whole ugly business feel companionable, greeting violence and paperwork alike with the same bright enthusiasm.

The joke is the gap between Hank's genuine warmth and the world he operates in, and Anthony Carrigan never winks at it — he plays the sincerity completely straight, which is what makes it funny and then, increasingly, touching. A hitman's associate who just wants everyone to get along shouldn't be this easy to root for.
