Niobe

A Roman noblewoman married into the Vorenus household, Niobe manages the family's household and dignity while her soldier husband is away fighting Caesar's wars. She is composed, dutiful, and quietly resourceful, holding together a life built on appearances and unspoken strain that predates her husband's long absence.

Varma plays Niobe with a stillness that hints at enormous pressure underneath — every polite domestic scene carries the weight of things unsaid. The show gives her real interiority rather than mere wifely function, and Varma uses small hesitations and glances to suggest a woman managing consequences she alone understands.
