Nick Birch

Nick is the smallest, least physically developed kid in his middle school class, watching puberty transform everyone around him while his own body stubbornly refuses to catch up. Anxious, eager to please, and desperate for any sign he's normal, he tags along after his best friend Andrew, comparing notes on every humiliating bodily development with a mix of dread and fascination.

Kroll voices his own alter ego with a squeaky, overeager energy that makes Nick's insecurity funny rather than pitiful — he's the straight man to the show's grotesque hormone monsters, but his panic about being left behind developmentally gives the raunch an emotional spine. He's the audience surrogate for anyone who felt like puberty skipped them.
