Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser

Murtagh is Jamie Fraser's godfather and sworn protector, a gruff, weathered Highlander who has watched over the boy since infancy and takes that duty as sacred law. He rides with Jamie's band as a wary, unsentimental guardian, quick with a blade and slow with trust, especially once an Englishwoman starts drawing his charge's attention.

Lacroix plays devotion without softness — Murtagh's love for Jamie comes out as suspicion, sarcasm, and blunt warnings rather than tenderness, which makes the rare moments of gentleness land hard. He's the show's flinty conscience, the one person too loyal and too old to be charmed, and that stubbornness gives every scene he's in real ballast.
