Mrs. Mumford

Mrs. Mumford is one of the founding ghosts of the Rentaghost agency, a gentle, fussing spirit who brings a homely, domestic manner to the business of haunting. Timid and easily flustered, she worries over propriety and comfort even as a ghost, preferring quiet order to the chaos her spectral colleagues tend to cause.

Betty Alberge plays her with a soft, apologetic warmth that makes the character's mildness funny rather than forgettable, a small comic counterweight to the show's louder eccentrics. The writing leans on her domestic fussiness for gentle humour, and Alberge finds real charm in the contrast between an ordinary housewife's manner and the fact that she is, unmistakably, dead.
