Mrs. Kroker

Mrs. Kroker turns up in Fry's childhood flashbacks as the neighborhood babysitter nobody wanted to be left with — a sour, elderly woman with no patience for children and even less warmth. She scolds, she withholds, she makes the smallest disobedience feel like a crime, and she clearly enjoys the power a little.

She's a tiny, throwaway role, but Tress MacNeille gives her a real croak of contempt that makes one scene land harder than it should. Futurama often uses these blink-and-you'll-miss-them adults to sketch Fry's rough Brooklyn childhood, and Kroker's petty nastiness is funny precisely because it's so small-scale and specific.
