Mrs Johnson

Mrs Johnson turns up on the margins of Futurama's world, one of the small, ordinary faces that pop in and out of Planet Express's orbit. She speaks with the brisk, put-upon tone of someone who has seen too much municipal nonsense to be surprised by anything the crew does next.

Tress MacNeille builds an entire minor universe of these one-scene voices, and Mrs Johnson is a neat example of her gift: a fully formed, slightly exasperated adult dropped into absurdity for a moment, treated as real, then gone. It's a small joke that depends entirely on commitment, and MacNeille commits.
