Mrs. Fry

Mrs. Fry is Philip Fry's mother, glimpsed in flashbacks and family scenes from before he wound up frozen for a thousand years. She's a warm, ordinary suburban mom of her era—affectionate, a little harried, unremarkable in the best way—rooted firmly in the twentieth-century life Fry left behind.

She works because Futurama rarely lingers on Fry's lost world, so every appearance of her carries disproportionate weight. Tress MacNeille keeps her plain and unsentimental rather than saccharine, which makes the show's occasional gut-punches about family and loss land harder than jokes usually allow.
