Mom runs Mom's Friendly Robot Company, the most powerful industrial conglomerate in the solar system, and to the public she's a beaming, folksy matriarch full of homespun charm. She dotes publicly on her three grown sons while running her empire with icy calculation, and treats anyone in her way with breezy, smiling menace.

The joke is the gap between voice and intent: Tress MacNeille plays her as a sugary radio-announcer sweetheart, all 'sweetie' and 'honey,' while the words underneath are pure boardroom ruthlessness. That contrast never gets old, and it lets the show skewer corporate power without ever dropping the disguise of a kindly old lady.
