Mitch Leery

Mitch Leery is Dawson's father, a local weatherman in Capeside who still carries the easy charm of a former high school athlete gone slightly soft around the edges. He's affectionate, quick with a joke, and determined to be a present, understanding dad rather than the distant kind — even when marriage and family strain that ideal.

John Wesley Shipp plays Mitch with a warmth that never curdles into sitcom-dad blandness; you believe he genuinely likes his son and enjoys being around him. The show uses him to test what a 'good enough' father looks like under real pressure, and Shipp lets small cracks of weariness and hurt show through the sunny exterior.
