Miss Piggy / Fozzie Bear / Animal / Sam the Eagle

Four very different Muppets, all worked by the same hand. Miss Piggy is a diva convinced of her own stardom, adoring Kermit with a karate chop ready if he doubts it. Fozzie is a sweetly terrible comedian who tells the joke anyway. Animal is pure drum-and-scream id. Sam the Eagle is priggish, patriotic, appalled by all of it.

Frank Oz gives each one a completely different body and voice, so the joke is never just the puppet — it's the specific rhythm of Piggy's purr turning to threat, Fozzie's flop-sweat optimism, Animal's chaos, Sam's clenched disapproval. Watching one performer sustain four opposing personalities in real time, often against each other, is the trick that never stops being funny.
