Mike McLintock

Mike is the Vice President's communications director, a rumpled, perpetually exhausted man who seems to be losing a slow-motion battle with the world. He fields impossible questions from reporters, absorbs blame nobody else wants, and narrates his own misfortunes with weary resignation, as if disaster is simply the weather he lives in.

Matt Walsh plays him at half-speed while everyone else sprints, which makes Mike's defeat feel almost restful — a small, sad comedy running underneath the bigger one. His rambling asides about bad food, worse luck, and vague ailments are thrown away so casually they land harder than the show's sharpest insults.
