Miguel Rivas

Miguel is Jack's oldest and closest friend, a steady, self-effacing presence at Jack's side since they were kids together. In the present-day scenes he turns up as Rebecca's husband, quietly enduring Kevin's chilly resentment without ever raising his voice or asking for credit. He seems used to being the overlooked one in the room.

The show plants him as a minor irritant — the second husband nobody quite trusts — and lets Jon Huertas play him with such patient, unshowy warmth that you start rooting for him before you understand why. It's a masterclass in a performance getting ahead of the writing, making you trust a character the story is still asking you to doubt.
