Mick Belker

Detective Mick Belker works undercover on the streets of an unnamed decaying city, and looks it — matted hair, rumpled clothes, feral energy. He's a growling, biting, snarling cop who treats suspects like vermin and means it, hauling in perps with a ferocity that borders on the animal. Underneath the menace is a cop who actually gets results.

Weitz plays him almost as a wild creature in a police station, all snarls and sudden lunges, and the show trusts that contradiction completely: the ugliest, most feral-seeming detective on the squad is also one of its most devoted sons, forever fielding calls from his mother. That collision of savagery and tenderness is what makes him unforgettable rather than just a bit.
