Michael Rowan

Michael Rowan enters Joan Watson's life as something rare for her: an ordinary man with no connection to detective work, murder, or Sherlock Holmes. He's easy company, warm and undemanding, offering Watson a glimpse of a life outside the brownstone. He seems content simply to be liked, and to like her back.

The character's whole function is contrast — a normal, likable guy dropped into a show built on brilliant, damaged people. Desmond Harrington plays him with unforced warmth rather than blandness, which lets the show ask a real question through him: can Watson actually live an ordinary life, or has the work already changed what she wants.
