Michael Dawson survives Oceanic 815 with his young son Walt at his side, though the two barely know each other after years apart. A contractor by trade, he throws himself into practical work—building rafts, fixing what's broken—while quietly trying to earn the trust and love of a boy who feels like a stranger to him.
Harold Perrineau plays Michael's love for Walt as raw and unpracticed, a father learning the job in real time under impossible circumstances. The show grounds its mysteries in that very human ache, and Perrineau's urgency—equal parts devotion and desperation—makes Michael's single-minded focus on his son one of the island's most relatable throughlines.
After the crash, Michael had problems earning Walt's trust and respect, but the two eventually bonded during their time on the Island together. He was in charge of the construction of the raft and attempted to leave the Island with Walt, Jin, and Sawyer to find rescue. However, while they were at sea they were attacked by the Others, Walt was kidnapped and the raft was destroyed.
