Maxwell's Demon

A creature named for the classic thought experiment, dropped into Futurama's universe as a literal gag: a small entity meant to embody the physics puzzle of sorting molecules and defying entropy. Voiced by David Herman, it appears as one of the show's many quick, science-nerd sight gags rather than a recurring presence.

Futurama's comedy runs on taking abstractions literally, and turning a thermodynamics riddle into an actual character is that impulse at its purest. Herman, already juggling several voices on the show, gives it just enough personality to land the joke before the show moves on, trusting the audience to know the physics and laugh at the collision.
