Maureen Murphy

Maureen is a punk-inflected teenager who wanders into Kevin Murphy's orbit as his girlfriend, all safety pins and blunt opinions in a suburb built on conformity. She talks in a flat, unbothered deadpan, unfazed by the chaos of the Murphy household, and seems to find Kevin's family more amusing than alarming.

Debi Derryberry gives her a strange, singsong calm that never matches the volume around her, which makes her the show's quietest joke and one of its best. Against a family that yells to be heard, Maureen just observes, and that stillness makes her oddly magnetic every time she's on screen.
