Mat Cauthon is a Two Rivers farm boy with a gambler's grin and a habit of trouble—sneaking, pranking, dodging chores and debts. He loves his friends, resents responsibility, and would rather talk his way out of danger than face it. When strangers and darker forces descend on his quiet village, he's pulled from mischief into something much larger than a card game.
