Marquis of Mulberry

The Marquis of Mulberry appears as a figure of inherited rank, introduced with the stiff formality and self-importance that title implies. He carries himself as someone used to being deferred to, more concerned with status and appearances than with the chaos unfolding around him, a small pocket of old-world pomposity dropped into Futurama's future.

John DiMaggio, already the show's master of blustering bravado as Bender, turns that same swagger toward something fussier and more aristocratic, and the mismatch is the joke. The character works because the performance never winks at the audience — the Marquis takes his own dignity completely seriously, which is exactly what makes him funny.
