Marnie Michaels

Marnie is the pretty, put-together one of the friend group, the girl who did everything right and expected life to reward her for it. She's dating a sweet, devoted boyfriend she's slowly losing interest in, working a gallery job she's ambivalent about, and increasingly anxious that her carefully arranged life isn't actually making her happy.

Allison Williams plays Marnie's poise as both armor and trap, letting cracks show in her voice and posture long before Marnie can admit anything's wrong. The show is merciless about her vanity and control issues, but Williams finds real ache underneath the exasperating perfectionism, making Marnie's slow unraveling funny and genuinely uncomfortable to watch.
