Mark

Mark Corrigan is a repressed office manager sharing a flat with his feckless friend Jeremy, narrating his every anxious thought straight to us. He longs for a respectable, conventional life — marriage, status, a woman who'll approve of him — while privately nursing crushes, resentments and elaborate historical fantasies he'd die before admitting to anyone.

The show's POV camera and constant internal monologue mean we hear every self-justifying, mortified, faintly monstrous thought Mark tries to suppress, and David Mitchell plays the gap between that inner voice and his stiff, apologetic exterior for exquisite discomfort. He's pompous, cowardly and needy, and somehow entirely, cringingly recognisable.
