A high lady of Highgarden arriving at court with her family's ambition riding on her, Margaery is poised, watchful and unfailingly charming — quick to court the smallfolk's love and to say exactly what a king needs to hear. She wants the throne, or the power beside it, and she plays for it with a smile.

Dormer plays political calculation as warmth, which is the trick: every gesture toward kindness might be sincere, might be strategy, and the show rarely lets you settle the question. Watching her manage men who think they're managing her is one of the series' great pleasures.
