Male CDC Scientist #1

A nameless functionary of officialdom, the CDC Scientist appears for a scene or two to deliver exposition, alarm, or deadpan diagnosis before vanishing back into the crowd of Futurama's endless one-off bureaucrats and specialists. He is brisk, credentialed, and entirely unbothered by the absurdity of whatever crisis he is describing.

The joke is always in the mismatch: total professional composure applied to lunacy. Maurice LaMarche, a voice actor capable of booming gravitas, plays it straight, which is funnier than mugging would be. Futurama's background characters work precisely because they take the ridiculous with total sincerity, and this scientist is a tidy example of that trick.
