Makoto Hyuga

Hyuga is one of NERV's bridge officers, hunched over a console calling out angle distributions and pattern readings while the city comes apart above him. He is competent, dutiful, and a little starstruck around his superiors, doing his job with quiet professionalism while the Evangelions fight for humanity's survival overhead.

He's the ordinary gear inside a very strange machine — a working-stiff technician surrounded by prophecy and trauma. The dub's clipped, harried line readings sell the sense of a man doing a stressful job under impossible pressure, and that groundedness makes the show's cosmic weirdness feel like it's happening to real people.
