Madeline Westen

Madeline Westen is Michael's chain-smoking mother, still living in the Miami house he grew up in, thrilled and terrified to have her burned-spy son back under her roof. She nags him about phone calls, worries over his safety, and refuses to be shut out of his dangerous new life, however much he tries to protect her from it.

She keeps a show full of guns and cons tethered to something ordinary: a mother who wants her son to call more. Sharon Gless plays her with raspy warmth and real steel, so the nagging never feels like sitcom shtick — it's love with nowhere else to go, and it lands harder for that.
