Lynn D. (Buck) Compton

Buck Compton is a lieutenant with Easy Company, 101st Airborne, and before the war a college athlete whose easy confidence carried over into soldiering. He leads by example, is popular with his men, and steps into combat over Normandy with the loose, competent swagger of someone who has always been good at physical things.

Neal McDonough plays him with a golden-boy warmth that makes him instantly likable, which is precisely the point — the show needs someone this sturdy and sunny so that the accumulating weight of war has somewhere real to land. His decency isn't a performance; it's the baseline the story quietly tests.
