Lt. Thomas Bale

Lieutenant Thomas Bale takes command of the 15th squad as a company man through and through, more comfortable with department politics and paperwork than with the messy instincts of his detectives. He arrives measuring everyone against procedure, quick to remind the squad who signs off on their methods, and slow to earn anyone's trust.

Currie Graham plays him with a starchy self-assurance that makes him a perfect foil for a squad room built on gut instinct and shortcuts. Bale isn't a villain, just an institutional pressure the detectives have to work around, and that friction — bureaucracy versus experience — gives the later seasons a new, believable kind of tension.
