Loy Cannon

In 1950s Kansas City, Loy Cannon runs a Black crime syndicate that has clawed its way into an uneasy truce with the Italian family that once ran the rackets alone. He is shrewd, patient, and thinking several moves ahead of everyone in the room, already imagining a future built on something more permanent than crime.

Chris Rock plays him without a trace of his stand-up cadence, giving Loy a coiled, watchful stillness that makes his sudden bursts of temper land like thunder. The writing hands him real ideas — about capital, about legacy, about what it costs to be taken seriously — and Rock delivers them like a man who has rehearsed this argument his whole life.
