Louis de Bourbon arrives at the French court as a prince of the blood, a Bourbon among Valois, which makes him both an insider and a threat depending on who is counting heirs. He is watchful and a little wry, aware that his birth gives him leverage he has not yet decided how to use.

Danny Kirrane brings an unshowy, faintly amused physicality to a role that could easily be played as pure political function, so Louis reads as a man genuinely sizing up the room rather than a chess piece the plot is moving. It grounds the court's schemes in something recognisably human.
