Lord Percy

Lord Percy is Edmund Blackadder's dim, devoted companion at court, a nobleman with more vanity than sense and a constant, doomed hunger for gold and advancement. He preens, schemes half-heartedly, and follows Blackadder's lead with puppyish loyalty, never quite grasping how thoroughly he's used or mocked in return.

McInnerny plays foolishness as a kind of sincerity, which makes Percy oddly touching amid all the cruelty and wit around him. He's the softest target in the room, and the show never lets him win, but his earnestness — chasing alchemy, fashion, favour — gives the sharper jokes something warm to land against.
