Liza Miller

Liza Miller is a 40-year-old single mom trying to restart a publishing career after years out of the workforce, and finding every door closed to someone her age. On the advice of a friend, she starts passing herself off as 26 — a lie that gets her a foot in the door and instantly complicates her life.

Sutton Foster plays the impersonation without ever making Liza smug or cruel about it — she's someone who wanted a fair shot and took a reckless one instead, and you feel the cost of upkeep on her face in every scene. Foster's comic timing and warmth keep a premise this contrived believable and, more than that, likable.
