Liz Lemon

Liz Lemon runs the writers' room at a chaotic sketch show, a job that mostly means herding egotistical stars and appeasing network executives while surviving on takeout and low expectations for her personal life. She's competent, exhausted, sarcastic, and weirdly proud of her ability to eat a whole sandwich in one bite. She wants order in a workplace built to deny her any.

Tina Fey builds her out of contradictions: feminist principle butting against total self-sabotage, professional sharpness undercut by an addiction to cheese and night cheese. The writing lets her be both the sensible center of the show and its biggest fool, and Fey's dry, exasperated delivery makes every collapse of dignity land as funny rather than sad.
