Lindsay is a former mathletes star and straight-A student who's started drifting toward the burnouts smoking behind the school, trading her father's old army jacket for a new identity. Smart, restless, and quietly dissatisfied with being the good girl everyone expects, she's testing who she might become instead.

Cardellini plays Lindsay's rebellion without cynicism — you can see her genuinely working out what she believes, not just performing teenage disaffection. The writing refuses to mock either her old life or her new friends, and she becomes the show's moral center precisely because she's still figuring out what that even means.
