Leslie Knope

Leslie Knope runs the Parks Department of Pawnee, Indiana, with a binder-organizing, waffle-fueled belief that local government can change lives. She's a deputy director drowning in bureaucratic indifference, chasing a pit-turned-park project nobody else cares about, armed with scrapbooks, pep talks, and an unshakable love for her dysfunctional town.

The early episodes almost play her as an Office-style naif, but Amy Poehler refuses to let the joke curdle into mockery — her enthusiasm is never stupid, just unfashionable. Watching sincerity survive contact with cynical coworkers, indifferent constituents, and small-town absurdity turns out to be the funniest and most durable engine a sitcom can have.
