Lenny Busker

Lenny is David Haller's closest friend inside Clockworks Psychiatric Hospital, a fast-talking fellow patient with a cigarette always in hand and no patience for the facility's rules. She's blunt, funny, a little dangerous, and fiercely loyal to David in her chaotic way — the one person who seems to actually see him.

Aubrey Plaza plays Lenny at a pitch nobody else on television was using in 2017: manic, drawling, gleefully profane, funny in a way that keeps curdling into something unsettling. The show gives her total tonal freedom, and Plaza uses it to make every scene she's in feel like it could tip into either comedy or horror without warning.
