Leela's Grandmother

When Leela finally goes looking for the family she never knew, this is one of the faces waiting at the end of that search — an old woman whose connection to her is treated, at first, as a small mystery to be puzzled out rather than explained outright. She's brisk, unsentimental, and entirely unbothered by Leela's fame.

Tress MacNeille, one of Futurama's great utility voices, gives her the flat, no-nonsense cadence of someone who has seen too much to be impressed by a starship captain showing up on her doorstep. The character works because the show trusts a quiet, small-scaled scene to carry real emotional weight amid all the sci-fi noise.
