Leela Actress

Within Futurama's own show-within-a-show, this actress is cast as Leela in the fictional biopic New New York's crew commissions about themselves. She struts in wearing an eyepatch and an exaggerated swagger, playing tough and heroic with theatrical overkill, clearly more interested in the drama of stardom than any resemblance to the real Leela.

The joke lands because Tress MacNeille plays her as a broad, self-satisfied caricature of the character she's supposedly honoring, letting Futurama needle its own mythology and the vanity of biopics in one stroke. It's a small, disposable bit, but MacNeille's vocal preening makes it memorably absurd.
