Character
Leela
Leela in Futurama (1999), played by Katey Sagal.
Leela is the no-nonsense captain of the Planet Express delivery ship, a purple-haired mutant who believes for most of what she knows to be an orphaned alien. She's competent, tough, and quick to put the men around her in their place, steering the crew through disasters she never quite asked to be part of.
Katey Sagal gives her a dry, weary authority that keeps the show's chaos grounded — she's the straight woman in a cartoon full of idiots, but never a scold. The writing lets her be genuinely capable and lonely at once, and Sagal's voice finds the ache under the sarcasm without ever begging for sympathy.
Turanga Leela (born July 29, 2975), better known as Leela, is the captain of the Planet Express Ship and deuteragonist of Futurama, the granddaughter of Munda's Mother and the great-granddaughter of Munda's Grandmother, the daughter of Turanga Morris and Turanga Munda and the mother of Axl, Mandy, and Newt Kroker (Amy Wong's adoptive children).
